Mahwah eruv restriction and parks ban could be reversed

According to the meeting agenda, the council will vote on Thursday to replace the parks ban with language that states Mahwah’s parks and playgrounds may be used by “Residents and non-residents alike.” Also on the agenda is a separate resolution declaring the council’s intent to disavow a proposed law that would have banned the posting of the plastic strips that denote the eruv.

The ordinances were put forward over the summer, when public meetings regularly turned raucous with protesters railing against the expansion of the eruv from Rockland County into Mahwah and Upper Saddle River.

In July, Grewal had ordered the Mahwah Police Department not to enforce the parks ban, which he said could lead to profiling.
